Once the seat of the Dark King’s dominion, it now exists as his prison, a land held together by binding magic, sacrifice, and constant defiance. It is a place where light persists under pressure, where shadow never truly recedes, and where the echoes of fallen guardians still shape the land.
At the centre of this struggle stand the Guardians of Shadow Fen, legendary warriors bound to the primal Bone Sigils. These relics imprison aspects of the Dark King’s power: omniscience, wrath, hunger, corruption, and madness. The sigils do not weaken what they contain. They hold it, and must be actively maintained. In the modern age, the Guardians have found the only means of sustaining the prison at scale through music. Together, they form the band Shadow Fen, channelling ancient magic through sound, rhythm, and belief to reinforce the bindings and prevent the Dark King’s return.
They do not stand alone.
Across Shadow Fen’s settlements and hidden paths are the Vanguard, mortal defenders who live within the realm and refuse to abandon it. Some were drawn through unstable crossings. Others were born into the Fen and never knew another home. Many in the modern world join the Vanguard through belief, participation, and sound. The Vanguard defend settlements, maintain wards, recover relics, and amplify the Guardians’ rituals. Without them, the prison would fail.
Spanning ages from myth to the present day, the lore of Shadow Fen is a record of endurance rather than triumph. It is a history of holding ground, of survival under pressure, and of resistance sustained through cooperation, discipline, and sound.
